Malaysia, located in Southeast Asia just north of the equator, is celebrated for its cultural diversity and richness. Kuala Lumpur, the capital, is situated in the western part of the peninsula, with the administrative centre, Putrajaya, 25 kilometers to the south. The country has a population of approximately 33.4 million (Department of Statistics Malaysia, 2023). Malaysia’s official language is Bahasa Melayu, and English is widely spoken as a second language. Despite Islam being the state religion, Malaysia is known for its religious tolerance. Traditionally reliant on natural resources, the Malaysian economy is diversifying and flourishing in fields such as science, tourism, trade, and medical tourism, indicating significant growth and diversification.
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia’s largest comprehensive university, offers cutting-edge education with advanced infrastructure and technology throughout the country. UiTM operates through 34 campuses, including one main campus, 12 state campuses, and 21 satellite campuses, with 17 faculties, 7 academic centers, and 4 colleges. It provides a wide range of academic programmes, including Foundation, Pre-Diploma, Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, and PhD, as well as Professional Programmes. UiTM maintains its position in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023, ranking between 101-200 out of 1,591 global institutions for the third consecutive year, with an improved score of 85.9. It remains the second-highest-ranked university in Malaysia, along with two others. UiTM excels in several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ranking within the top 50 universities for SDG17, SDG5, and SDG16, and within the top 100 for SDG7, SDG4, and SDG1. Notably, UiTM makes significant progress in SDG5, where it now ranks 33rd globally, and in SDG16, where it secures the 38th position. Additionally, UiTM has improved its rank in the mandatory SDG17 and has undertaken projects and research aligning with SDG3 and SDG11 this year.
