Taman Seri Muda Gets a Green Makeover: UiTM and KPKT’s World Habitat Day Plogging Initiative
On 25 November 2023, the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) took a proactive stance by organising a unique plogging programme in collaboration with the College of Built Environment (CBE) UiTM Shah Alam and the Management and Science University (MSU), commemorating World Habitat Day 2023. The programme was held in Section 25, Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, where the students and the local community joined hands to combine jogging and litter-picking activities.
The programme aimed to develop student capabilities and mould them into conscientious global citizens by including them in national education associations and raising awareness about sustainability. The Ministry viewed it as more than just a cleaning effort but a transforming experience for everyone engaged. The idea brought a unique viewpoint to the Sri Muda neighbourhood, which involved the foreign community. The joint efforts of students and the surrounding community will create a beneficial ripple effect, instilling a strong sense of environmental responsibility.
This unique initiative not only sanctifies the planet but also increases awareness about the need for environmental protection, consistent with the national strategy for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). The effort is strongly related to the national education strategy, emphasising environmental awareness in university courses.
