UiTM Kedah Forges International Connection with Institute of Southern Punjab, Pakistan

UiTM has set the goal of becoming a globally renowned university by 2025, a vision outlined in its GRU2025 blueprint. To achieve this, the university has conceptualised and implement Global Learning. The focus of this initiative is to bring international connections and live interactions directly into the classroom. The aim of this endeavour is to provide world-class education while helping students become competent graduates with the acceleration of online learning and virtual meetings, Global Learning is even more relevant as UiTM students can now have international speakers in their classroom experiencing any geographical limitations.

Realising the benefit of such an innovation, UiTM Kedah Branch has successfully conducted a Global Learning session for its students. The Global Learning session was attended by 34 students. The invited speaker was Mr. Abdul Bari Khan, a senior lecturer at the Institute of Southern Punjab, Multan, Pakistan. The topics covered by Mr Abdul Bari Khan were Consideration for Professional Interaction, Professional Etiquette, Politeness & Concept of Face which align with the English for Professional Interaction subject learning outcomes. The session was conducted via Webex and was organised by Syazliyati Ibrahim, Rafidah Amat, Dr Nursyazwanie Mansor, Nur Hidyati Zolhani, and Nurazila Abdul Aziz, lecturers from UiTM Kedah.

All in all, the students gave positive feedback and were able to garner valuable insights from the invited speaker. The experiences shared with the students by the speaker, enabled them to learn about different perspectives on workplace issues and compare their future workplace scenarios with those in Pakistan.

UiTM and READ Institute Sign MoU to Enhance Global Educational and Research Partnerships 

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Research and Education Development (READ) Institute, Indonesia. In collaboration with the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at IAIN Palopo, Indonesia, READ provides a platform known as the International Journal of Asian Education (IJAE), which welcomes high-quality original papers on education from researchers, academicians, professionals and practitioners from around the world.

The IJAE is a publication focusing on general education studies. It provides professional and academic analysis of global issues a tall levels of education, both formal and informal. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles by international authors covering a variety of educationrelated topics, including pedagogy and instruction, history, philosophy, psychology, sociology, international and comparative education, and educational leadership. The articles offer original insights into educational policies, services, processes and practices and draw on experiences from different countries around the world.

The MOU, initiated by Ts Dr Duratul Ain Tholibon, Senior Lecturer of Civil Engineering Studies, College of Engineering, UiTM Pahang Branch, Jengka Campus, fulfils performance indicators PI 74 and PI 90, which refer to new MoUs with international institutions related to academic or research activities.

The MOU will run for one year and is intended to enhance collaboration between UiTM and READ. It is hoped that this MoU will strengthen, promote and expand international partnerships in the fields of science, culture and research. This MoU is in line with SDG 17, which focuses on partnerships for the goals, and aims to enhance the global visibility of the UiTM Pahang Branch.

UiTM Enhances Global Connectivity with Strategic International Partnerships

The Institute of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (iCEPS) of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) formalised partnerships with six distinguished local and international institutions. These Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs) and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) represent a significant step forward in fostering global connections in the field of transnational education, leadership training, and professional and short-course programmes.

Under the leadership of UiTM Vice - Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib @Sahibuddin, iCEPS aims to promote lifelong learning through robust local and international collaborations. The MoAs and MoUs were signed with the following partners who participated both virtually and in person:

UiTM Negeri Sembilan Visits the University of Hyogo, Japan for Potential Collaborations

UiTM Negeri Sembilan Branch (UiTMCNS) has proven its excellence in building international collaborations and is seeking further research partnerships, including with the University of Hyogo (UH), one of Japan’s leading universities. A delegation from UiTMCNS visited UH to explore potential collaboration opportunities. The meeting was attended by Ts Dr Noorlis Ahmad and Dr Siti Sara Ibrahim, both Deputy Rectors of UiTMCNS, who presented proposals and discussed possible joint initiatives with the UH representatives, Professor Hideo Nishitani and Professor Kohei Hatta. During the visit, the UiTMCNS team toured the UH laboratories where ongoing research using advanced instruments was on display.

The meeting also marked the appointment of Dr Mu’adz Ahmad Mazian, a senior lecturer at UiTMCNS, as a two-month visiting researcher at UH. He will collaborate with the UH research team to study the mechanisms of CRL4Cdt2 ubiquitin ligase, which regulates cell cycle.

The UiTMCNS delegation also visited the SPring-8 Angstrom Compact Free Electron Laser (SACLA) at the RIKEN SPring-8 Centre in Harima Science Garden City. The SACLA, the first of its kind in Japan, is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with high-energy X-ray free-electron lasers and is mainly used for protein structure research.

The collaboration between the UiTMCNS and UH could lead to a number of significant research results through the application of high-tech instruments, especially the research instruments available at the RIKEN SPring-8 Centre.

UCT34673: Transforming Energy Access-Learning Partnership (TEA-LP)

UiTM has joined the Teaching Energy Access-Learning Partnership (TEA-LP) network in Nairobi, Kenya, to advance energy access initiatives and foster global collaboration. The TEA-LP programme, which is funded by the UK Aid, aims to develop courses on energy access SDG 17. UiTM’s participation in the TEA-LP programme provides a unique opportunity to develop a course on energy access embedded within existing Master’s programmes. The course will identify global, regional and local solutions to empower graduates with comprehensive knowledge, skills and competencies that contribute to the sustainable provision of clean energy. UiTM’s collaboration with partner universities across Africa and the Indo-Pacific region promotes international collaboration and contributes to global efforts to achieve SDG 17. The course will emphasise sustainable energy solutions that align with the key components of SDG 17 and promote the use of renewable energy.

Empowering Community Development through Affiliated Colleges and Franchise Programmes

The Institute of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (iCEPS) at UiTM plays a central role in the implementation of SDG 17 by fostering strategic partnerships to expand access to higher education. Through its collaboration with affiliated colleges, iCEPS offers Local Franchise Programmes, allowing students from diverse backgrounds to enrol in university-level courses. These partnerships not only enhance educational opportunities, but also provide a second chance for individuals who aspire to academic excellence. Through these collaborations, UiTM ensures that education remains accessible, inclusive, and aligns with the global goals of building resilient and sustainable communities through knowledge sharing and capacity building. ASiD Sustainability Festival Week 2023: Fostering Environmental Awareness and Collaboration at UiTM Dengkil

The ASiD Sustainability Festival Week 2023 at UiTM Dengkil was an important milestone for the 2023 Sustainability Warrior/Green Marvel programme. The objective of the initiative was to provide students with information on environmental conservation. This three-week festival featured a variety of activities to which is parallel with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Educate them on the importance of sustainability and were attended by more than 2500 participants. Key activities included collage competitions, crossword puzzles, an OOTD competition, UGC logo design, CogliEX II 2023, Islamic and environmental talks, U-REKA innovation exhibition Islam and KUDAH@Port Dickson.

The festival led to a significant increase in the students’ environmental awareness and sustainability activities. The direct organisation of several departments at the Dengkil campus demonstrated collaboration in pursuit of environmental goals. Students donated almost a tonne of repurposed materials to the UGC ASiD fund. A collection of over 100kg of used items, including fabrics, is currently awaiting collection by Kloth Malaysia. The effectiveness of the programme in promoting responsible consumption and waste management was further demonstrated by the collection of almost 1 tonne of paper and plastic for the festival’s collection centres. Hence, the Minggu Festival Kelestarian ASiD 2023 at UiTM Dengkil has significantly raised environmental awareness among students and promoted collaboration and sustainability.

International Community Project Thailand 2023 - SULAM

The opening ceremony of the Malaysia - Thailand International Solar Project Community Programme was officiated by the Mayor of Betong, Mr Sagoon Lenglakkun. This two-day programme was one of the community service projects under Service Learning Malaysia-University for Society or SULAM, UiTM. Launched in 2019, SULAM is an initiative by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) to combine learning objectives with community service. A total of 35 students from UiTM Perak Branch together with students from Tessaban School 2 were involved in the programme. This included the installation of solar light panels for agricultural activities at the school, the design and construction of mobile food kiosks as well as the renovation of old kiosks and the organisation of language workshops. Following the success of this programme, Datuk Bandar Betong agreed to organise a return visit with students from Thailand to the UiTM Perak Branch.

The Ihya’ Ramadan Programme 1444/2023: Touch of Love by FLIPS UiTM Kelantan with Lilbanat Darulnaim Orphanage

A programme organised by FLIPS — a collaboration between the Faculty of Information Studies (FPM), Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Policy Studies (FSPPP) and Faculty of Law (FUU) at UiTM Kelantan Branch Campus, together with Tengku Anis Library, Health Unit, Career and Counselling Unit, PEWANI, Ikram Clinic, Islah Family Club and PUSPANITA, took place at HRD(A) UiTM Machang Campus. The event, titled “The Ihya’ Ramadan Programme: Touch of Love by FLIPS with Lilbanat Darulnaim Orphanage”, began with a welcome address by the Head of the Centre of Study of FLIPS, followed by an opening address by the Rector of UiTM Kelantan. The programme included the handing over of donations to the orphans and two briefing sessions from Ikram Clinic and the Tengku Anis Library. The children also took part in a library tour of Tengku Anis Library conducted by Puan Nordelina Zulkarnain, the PTA’s Senior Librarian, and some PTA industrial training students donation in conjunction with the programme, Tengku Anis Library conducted a book programme to donate books to Lilbanat Darulnaim Orphanage in Kampung Banggol Judah, Machang, Kelantan.

UiTM and Murdoch University Deepen Ties with New Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

In line with SDG 17, the partnership between the government and academic institutions has been strengthened through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Murdoch University Australia (MU) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). The aim is to further promote the exchange of expertise, the joint organisation of international workshops and seminars, the exchange of staff and students as well as research and publication activities. The MoU was signed in the Khalid Yusoff Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine at UiTM Sungai Buloh Campus. The MoU was presented to UiTM’s Assisstant Vice Chancellor Prof Ts. Dr. Nor Hayati Saad on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Roziah Mohd Janor to the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Environment and Life Sciences at Murdoch University, Professor Dr Jennifer Verduin.

UiTM and Kuala Lumpur City Hall Signed MoU for Academia-Industry Collaboration

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall(DBKL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the DBKL Training Institute in Kuala Lumpur, which represents an important step towards strengthening collaboration between academia and industry. The MoU establishes a long-term partnership between UiTM and DBKL. The focus is on the exchange of knowledge and expertise, student development, research institutions, practical training, symposiums, conferences, short courses, and research collaborations. This relationship is expected to create significant potential for the growth and development of both parties, particularly in the areas of teaching, learning, information exchange, and practical activities. Collaborative Tax Education: LHDN and UiTM’s e-Filing and Excise Briefing

Six lecturers from UiTM Cawangan Pahang Branch, Accounting Study Centre (PPP UCPh), led by Dr Mohamad Azmi Nias Ahmad, visited the Onland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) branch in Temerloh to explore the possibility of organising tax briefings and e-filing counter services. The meeting was chaired by En. Muhamad Assif Abdullah, Deputy Customer Care Officer 2. During the two-hour meeting, the timing for implementing these programmes was a key topic of discussion. LHDN agreed to the dates proposed by PPP UCPh for the excise information sessions and e-filing counters. PPP UCPh also made further suggestions for future excise briefing programmes. The meeting covered various excise issues in Malaysia, with En Muhamad Assif providing insights into the new excise tax measures for 2023, including the use of artificial intelligence to identify taxpayers, a new excise tax administration system, and LHDN’s community partnership initiatives.
