Leading Digital Transformation in Project Management

UiTM Technoventure and the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) jointly organised the MBSA Digital Construction Convention 2023 on October 17 18, 2023, under the theme ‘Leading the Digital Transformation in Project Management’. Over 250 passionate participants, including professionals, contractors, local authorities, academics, and students attended three forums that featured discussions by distinguished professionals. The convention revolved around three pivotal forums, each delving into the cutting-edge realm of ‘Digital Technologies Transformation in Project Management’. The convention’s overarching mission was to gather professionals, technical luminaries, industry experts, technology providers, and stakeholders in the construction sphere, all with the shared purpose of pioneering the use of digital technology in the management of construction projects. Among them were JKR Director of BIM, Director & BIM Manager, Director of CIDBWKL, Director of KAGOOL, CEO of 3D Parametric, a Senior Tunnel Engineer at MMC Gamuda, and CEO of IKRAM Works to name a few. The forums were moderated by Professor Sr Ts Dr Abdul Hadi Nawawi and Professor Dr Mohamad Nidzam Rahmat from UiTM Shah Alam, who is also heading the convention. The convention served as a dynamic platform to showcase the latest advancements in digital technologies. Renowned companies such as IKRAM, BIMAGE Consulting, Selangor Advance/Capbay, Keymag Controls, and RDM graced the exhibition booths, exhibiting the future of construction technology. Such a resounding success was made possible through the unwavering commitment and relentless support of UiTM Technoventure consultants and the MBSA organizing team.

Drone Technology in Building Inspection: A Knowledge Sharing Session

The Surveying and Geomatics Program (PSUG) at UiTM Perak held an interactive session on “Demonstration of Drone Technology for Building Inspection” on 16 November 2023. The session aimed to increase knowledge in drone applications and spread geospatial technology knowledge to lecturers, particularly in the Building Surveying Department. The session began with an introduction to drone technology, followed by a discussion on drone laws and regulations in Malaysia and the operation of drones using a simulator. The session then moved on to drone operation and data collection in the field. It is hoped that the session would promote innovation, encourage the use of advanced technologies in education and infrastructure as well as enhancing the knowledge and skills of lecturers in drone technology. The session had full support from the Building Surveying Department and the management of UiTM Perak Branch. It was a success, and PSUG plans to continue this collaboration with other departments in the future.

UiTM Leads the Collaboration of the IMT-GT UNINET Meeting in BATAM

In conjunction with the 30th anniversary of IMT-GT, the 29th IMT-GT Ministerial Meeting was convened from 26th – 29th September 2023 at Marriott Harbour Bay in Batam, Indonesia. In addition to the regional cooperation meeting of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, the event was further enlivened with a tour, site visit and a gala dinner on 28th September 2023 which witnessed the victory of UiTM students in the IMT GT Virtual Innovation Competition 2023, the “Innovation Synergy Towards Sustainable Development Goals” organised by the Centre for IMT-GT Subregional Cooperation (CIMT) in collaboration with UiTM Global. UiTM students; Chyesia Moses Haremy, Intan Munirah Zulkifli, Natiara Hashim and Ahmad Dzuharuddin won first-place through a health injury rehabilitation innovation; “Development of Patient Specific Adaptive Assistive Device for Brachial Plexus Injury”. It was a collaboration between UiTM College of Engineering Studies (Mechanical) and UiTM Faculty of Medicine students. The prizes were sponsored by CIMT in the form of RM4000 in cash, a holiday package to Batam and certificates. The second and third place winners were from Universitas Syiah Kuala who each competed in the innovation in dentistry; “Application Gigoe Detection (Dmf-T Caries Index Calculation Application uses Dental Images with Deep Learning)” and an innovation on agriculture; “Artificial IOT to Classify and Predict the Quality of Produce in Smart Agriculture”. The prizes were presented by the Governor of Batam City, Ansar Ahmad.

Innovating Sustainable Materials: UiTM Researchers Develop Advanced Chitosan-Microalgae Composite

UiTM researchers are pioneering the development of a new, eco-friendly material by combining chitosan, a natural biopolymer, with microalgae. While chitosan is valuable, it has limitations such as poor solubility and low surface area. Microalgae adds beneficial properties to improve chitosan’s performance. The project uses a hydrothermal process to create a stable and effective composite material. This new material will be tested for various applications, including energy generation, catalysis, and gas capture. This research focuses on advancing material science and developing innovative solutions for industrial applications. The creation of this advanced composite demonstrates a commitment to improving technological capabilities and sustainability in material production.

Advancing Magnetic Materials: UiTM’s Research on Double Perovskites for Innovative Industrial Applications

This research, led by UiTM, focuses on understanding and improving double perovskites—a special type of material known for their unique magnetic and structural properties. By experimenting with different elements in these materials, UiTM researchers aim to uncover how changes affect their magnetic behaviours and structural arrangements. This research is crucial for advancing materials science and developing innovative technologies. Advanced Wireless Chargers System for EV

A research team from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr Rahimi bin Baharom, has secured the PETRONAS Innovation and Novelty Project Award for their project titled “Advanced Wireless Chargers System for EV.” The award which recognizes the project’s exceptional quality, originality, and potential impact on renewable energy and green mobility was conferred on 17th February 2023. The achievement highlights the team’s contribution to advancing sustainable technologies and supports UiTM’s ongoing efforts in research and development in these critical areas. The research project “Advanced Wireless Chargers System for EV” also fits the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Affordable and Clean Energy. The project benefits various groups, especially EV users who gain more convenient and efficient charging, while the automotive industry benefits from improved wireless charging technology. The renewable energy sector sees advancements in green mobility, supporting sustainable practices. Environmental advocates appreciate the reduction in carbon emissions and the promotion of cleaner transportation. The academic and research communities gain opportunities for further exploration in power electronics and renewable energy. Ultimately, the general public enjoys long-term environmental and economic benefits from sustainable energy solutions.

UFM UiTM Radio Goes Visual 

With technology at the forefront in digitilized communication as well as innovation that connects people, spaces and business, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, UiTM launched its Visual Radio, as an added value to the already established university-based station, UFM UiTM Radio, through its 93.6 FM frequency. It has been a UiTM campus newsbeat as well as a platform to engage and discuss with the nearby community as an effort to up-date them with current affairs. This is a form of extended user experience for its listeners within the population of social media. Such paradigm-shifts were initiated by UFM UiTM Radio and the faculty’s Broadcasting Department, to see changes in a more nuanced information gathering, enhanced decision-making options via radio, as part and parcel in enticing a generation of new listeners. As such, an official launch took place at UFM Radio station in UiTM Shah Alam to commemorate this historic launch to the public. UFM UiTM Radio, has come from strength to strength in restoring the brand and its production management to ensure its longevity as a brand, its purpose and mission in nation building and staying connected with the social media population of the day, especially the GenZ. The radio station welcomes new ideas for potential segments to ensure that the cycle of ideas is kept fresh, innovative, and inspiring to its audiences. With more than two decades of operation and experience, going visual is one of UFM UiTM Radio strategic measures in ensuring its continued relevance. The concept of visual radio which serves as a value added extension is still in a form of radio which still preserves the leading role of a radio program.

The ARTSMART Project Series 8: Unlocking Opportunities Fly with Science

The UiTM Faculty of Education has initiated a project called the artSMart Project series 8 to welcome Orang Asli students in Kuala Lipis, Pahang. The initiative aims to improve the quality of life for the Orang Asli community and contribute to their survival. The project involves students and lecturers handling guided learning workshops with Orang Asli students. The workshops lasted for three months from November 2023 to January 2024, and were attended by approximately 300 students. The project also contributed to the survival and improvement of the Orang Asli community’s quality of life through activities in health, leisure, sports, art, and culture. Donations in the form of food were also handed over to the Tok Batin and the villagers involved. The project had benefited more than 400 Orang Asli from nearly 20 Orang Asli villages in Kuala Lipis, Pahang. The project is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal for Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, particularly focusing on fostering innovation in education. The program is most suitable under community development due to its community engagement, social impact, and collaborative efforts with various organisations and government bodies.

DroBotics Training of Trainers Workshops: Fostering Expertise and Educational Empowerment

The CelcomDigi Young Digital Innovators Program 2023 began with the DroBotics Training of Trainers (ToT) workshops for Pusat Ekonomi Digital (PEDi) managers in several UiTM campuses; with sessions at UiTM Kelantan and Kedah in August, 2023 and sessions in UiTM Shah Alam and Johor in September, 2023. The program focuses on two main components: DroBotics and Designthon. DroBotics highlights programming by using drones and line-following robots, while the Designthon focuses on the concepts of design thinking and programming. It marked the fifth year of partnership between CelcomDigi and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) which aimed to provide communities and students with the opportunity to learn basic robotics and coding. It is hoped that their knowledge of programming would become meaningful through the fun and engaging approach, thus boosting their interest in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field which aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
